Recent Monash graduate Jessica Au has made sporting history, captaining the first Australian Women’s Futsal team to reach the finals of an international Futsal tournament while also taking out the Golden Boot Award.

It’s not every day you graduate medical school and join The Alfred as a junior doctor. Nor is it every day you’re chosen to represent Australia in the World Futsal Championships. But Monash Elite Student Performer Scheme student, Jess Au, has incredibly managed to achieve both.

Final year Monash medical student, and soccer/futsal champion, Jessica Au hasn’t allowed isolation to dampen her spirits.

Between placement at the Alfred Hospital, and self-directing her own training, Jess has pushed to remain focused on her goals.

Monash University’s own Jessica Au is a rare breed, someone who thrives under the glare of bright lights.

Jessica is not only an elite soccer player, but also undertaking her Medicine degree at Monash.

Having been touted as a promising player, Jess has been part of the Melbourne Victory system since the age of 16 years and signed a professional contract with Victory in 2014.

JESSICA Au will never forget the training session where Melbourne Victory coach Joe Montemurro told her she had earned a contract with the W-League champions. The 19-year-old had arrived early, expecting she would have to continue pushing her case for a ­contract with the reigning W-League champion.

South Melbourne’s 19-year-old winger Au has played a large role in her side’s dominant season – which has seen them take a three-game lead at the top of the league – contributing eight goals and a number of assists along the way.

Possessing a fantastic touch and a marvellous dribbling ability, Au has composure and decision making ability that belies her tender age.

There’d been glimpses of her ability during the season, but little to suggest a performance of this magnitude, least of all early in the year when it appeared like she’d struggle to break into the first team.

It was the last day of the Women’s Premier League season and this top of the table clash between Sandringham and South Melbourne WFC promised to have plenty of spice in it.
